Remember the camera strap cover I made last month? I've had a ton of emails about ordering them, but I just don't have the time :( Sorry!
I did make this one for a gal to test my measurments and it seemed to work well, so I've created a tutorial for all of you fabulous people!
These measurements fit a Canon Camera Strap (approx. 2" x 25")
Use 1/4 " seams throughout
I did make this one for a gal to test my measurments and it seemed to work well, so I've created a tutorial for all of you fabulous people!
These measurements fit a Canon Camera Strap (approx. 2" x 25")
Use 1/4 " seams throughout
Cut five 5 1/2" x 2 3/4" Strips of fabric in various colors
Cut one 2 3/4" x width of fabric strip
Sew small strips together end to end with right sides together
Use a 3/4" x 44". crossgrain ribbon or a 1" x 44" strip of fabric and serge the sides (You can also use pinking shears to minimize fray or leave the edge raw for a scrappy look)
Sew a basting stitch (longest length stitch your machine allows) down the middle of your "ruffle" leaving the threads long on each end
Pin one end to the end of your pieced strip leaving about 1/2" hangover
Pin the other end to the other side of your pieced strip only about 1/2" onto your last rectangle of fabric.
Pull one thread from your basting stitch to gather the fabric (or ribbon) and create a ruffle
adjust gathering as needed in order for your pieced strip to lay flat
Pin and sew a straight seam (regular stitch length) down the center of your ruffle, back stitching at each end
unpick the basting stitch
Pin large ric rac (the same length as your pieced strip) above the ruffle
Try to match your "valleys" with the raw edge of your strip
Baste the ric rac 1/2 " down from raw edge
layer the solid strip with the pieced strip, right sides together, and sew down one side length wise, then press the seam. Trim solid strip to same length as pieced strip. serge the ends (or fold up and press the edges 1/4")
Press up each end 3/4"
Sew a straight seam 1/8" away from inside fold, then another 1/4" from inside fold
re-layer your fabrics and sew down other side lengthwise
You can serge or sew and trim off ric rac with a rotary cutter
Turn the camera strap and press
Make your favorite fabric flowers and slip stitch them onto the plain rectangle.
Get creative with the embellishments. You can use scrabble letters, buttons, brads, jewels, beads, pearls or anything else that catches your eye.
Here a few good fabric flower tutorials to use:
